The Done in a Day Committee provides charities and community organizations with volunteers for projects or events that can be accomplished in a day or weekends time. Agencies need to serve women and/or children or have an emphasis on education.
Application to Request Volunteers: request league members to assist your non-profit organization for a single project or event.

Description: 3rd Annual Flower Show to raise awareness of UAY, raise funds to support UAY's youth development, teen parent, and counseling programs, and hold a fun and creative spring competition for floral and garden enthusiasts.
Shifts: Requesting help for set-up and auction. More details to follow. If any member has an interest in creating a floral arrangement for entry into the competition please email the contact for this event.

Shelter House Dinner

Description: We will be providing an evening meal for the Shelter House. Remember…over 1500 people are served by the Shelter House per year (2005), 600 of these were women and children, the Shelter House serves 280 meals per week, we need only 14 volunteers for our evening!
Shifts:5 volunteers to each make a casserole, 4 volunteers to each make 2 dozen cookies/bars, 2 volunteers to each prep vegetables, 3 volunteers to serve. More information about the meal is in the April newsletter.

Fired Up! Iowa City Bowl Painting

Description: We will be painting bowls to donate to the Domestic Violence Intervention Program Annual Souper Supper to be held Jan 31, 2008. This would be a good event to share volunteering with a child. Food or drink may be brought to Fired Up! Iowa City. You will share the cost of picking out a bowl to paint.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County Annual Holiday Party

Montgomery Hall at the 4-H fairgrounds (large white building on the left as you pull into the parking lot of the fairgrounds)
Description: We will provide all food for the event through a monetary gift from ICJSL Done in a Day Committee. You may also contribute to the fun for Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the "littles" they are matched with by volunteering to help at the event.
Shifts: Arrive 4:45-5pm to set-up, organize and serve food. Stay as long as you like to help with crafts and games or just enjoy the fun.

Iowa Children’s Museum Monster Mash

Description: Help kids have a great time at ICM’s Annual Halloween Party. Volunteers will facilitate Halloween activities and greet & interact with visitors. Volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate Halloween costumes.

Needs: All items in bold are considered high priority needs. Bed linens, blankets, pillows, towels, washcloths, coffee, coffee cups, dishes, flatware, laundry detergent, deodorant, shampoo, soap, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, combs and brushes. Clothing donations: coats and long underwear (both youth and adult), hats, mittens, and socks. Store credit at any local grocery or discount store. Phone cards and bus passes.

Needs: Many times family visits to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit are unplanned and unanticipated. Help us gather sample sizes of toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, and shampoo & conditioner to provide basic items for these families.

Description: Project Holiday
Organization: Salvation Army, Crisis Center, Visiting Nurses Assoc. & Elder Services
Needs: Project Holiday is collaboration between the above non-profit organizations to provide for children, families and elderly in need at the holidays. Contributions may be made in 1 or more of the following ways:
1) Donate a new toy for a child
2) Buy a $15 tag to provide a holiday meal (includes turkey) for a family in our community
3) Buy a $15 tag to provide a meal and gift card to an elderly individual in our community
Toys and checks made out to "Project Holiday" will be collected at the December 6th Social. You may contact Kelly to arrange other drop-off.
