Done in a Day
The Done in a Day Committee provides charities and community organizations with volunteers for projects or events that can be accomplished in a day or weekends time. Agencies need to serve women and/or children or have an emphasis on education.
Application to Request Volunteers: request league members to assist your non-profit organization for a single project or event.
Completed 2007-2008 Events:
Child Life Program (UIHC): Created personal care packages to be given to families with unexpected trips to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Iowa Children’s Museum: provided volunteers for the annual Monster Mash Halloween party.
Iowa City Community School District Family Resource Centers: Members collected and donated halloween costumes for the resource centers to provide for children in need.
Nest of Johnson County: Members collected and donated baby supplies.
Salvation Army, Elder Services, Visiting Nurses Assoc.: These organizations collaborate every year for "Project Holiday." Toys for kids may be donated to Salvation Army and/or $20 tickets may be purchased to provide a meal for a family or giftcard for an elderly individual in need. Members made donations.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Annual Holiday Party: provided funds for the event.
Shelter House: Provided food and servers for an evening meal. Members participated in donation drive for supplies.
Domestic Violence Intervention Program Souper Bowl Supper: Members painted and donated bowls for their annual "Souper Supper" fundraiser.
United Action for Youth Festival of Flowers: This annual fundraiser provides funds to support their many youth programs. Members helped with set-up, clean up and auction at the event.
